What are BAER and VEP?
BAER (Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response) and VEP (Visual Evoked Potential) are non-invasive diagnostic tests that measure the brain’s electrical response to sound and visual stimuli.
BAER evaluates the auditory pathway from the ear to the brainstem, while VEP assesses the visual pathway from the eyes to the brain.
Why are BAER & VEP Tests Done?
- To assess hearing and auditory nerve function (BAER)
- To evaluate visual pathway and optic nerve function (VEP)
- To diagnose neurological disorders affecting sensory pathways
- To investigate hearing loss or vision problems
- To assess multiple sclerosis and other demyelinating disorders
- To evaluate brain function in infants, children, or uncooperative patients
- To detect lesions in the brainstem or optic pathways
